Leo is now on TV in New Zealand! A quick Facebook request for a copy of Leo’s Ladder from a lady there made my day. How lucky we were to be featured on the advert for Stannah. One day I hope to see both islands, as I hear how beautiful the country is and how lovely the people are. Let me know if there is a part I really need to see when I get to travel!
I will be posting out our first copy to NZ this week, let me know if you need a copy of Leo’s Ladder and it will be out first thing after the Bank Holiday!

We recently visited a school during their inspection from Ofsted.
We were noted in their final report:
“The curriculum is strengthened by a range of engaging visits, visitors and events. ”
“Pupils learn about a range of interesting jobs and careers. During the inspection, pupils enjoyed an assembly from a visiting author and illustrator, and learned about the process of writing and publishing work. ”
I am pleased to help the wonderful committee who work tirelessly for the family fun event in Knutsford on Saturday 20th April 2019. Children can win a copy of Leo’s Ladder, a book featuring Knutsford scenes.
Ali Holah, the illustrator beyond compare, and I will be talking to a U3A Writer’s Group in Holmes Chapel on Friday 5 April.
The U3A is the University of the Third Age, a group of retired and semi-retired people in the UK who meet to share and learn from each other. I have friends who attend wine groups, and cookery classes with the U3A and really look forward to these meetings!
Ali and I were approached by a member of the writer’s group, and are more than happy to talk to other writers about our process and the subsequent learning curve after the publication of our first children’s book, Leo’s Ladder.
We will be showing the very first bean of our idea and all it’s metamorphoses. I am keen to hear about the member’s own journeys into writing!
World Book Day in the UK is coming soon! Thursday 7th March 2019
When I was teaching in primary schools, the excitement of World Book Day instilled the love of reading to the children, parents and teachers. I could hear parents talking at the gates about dressing up ideas, and sharing book ideas. Children would be introduced to new books and characters throughout the week, either by their parents, friends or teachers. World Book Day is a great chance for teachers to share their favourite stories and to introduce other staff members to new books.
Well, Leo’s Ladder is a brand new book with a charming story. We’d love to share it with you!My illustrator Ali and I have limited availability that week. Please contact us soon to arrange for a visit to your school, playgroup or club! We love to see the reaction of our readers of Leo’s Ladder! As a former teacher, I am ready to spend the morning or afternoon working with any class from R-Yr6 on writing skills.
The shop in the lobby sells Leo’s Ladder along with products made by other students of the guild. This is a great time to grab a handmade piece of jewelry or artwork. Prices are incredibly reasonable for one off pieces of work.
If you want to know more about the Wilmslow Guild, please look at their website. The variety of courses is amazing! I have taken classes in jewelry making and art for all. Getting together with others with similar interests is always good for my mood and happiness. Making something to me is a mindful activity and so relaxing.
It is rewarding to hear how Leo’s Ladder is being received by the little ones and their parents . Ali and I met with Emily from a local website dedicated to providing information to parents. It is a comprehensive site, that covers holiday activities and events to entertain both parents and children.
Knutty Mums creator Emily has very kindly written a review of our book, Leo’s Ladder. Getting feedback is so important to us! We love the fact that her son has been motivated to write now too. Please read all about it on her site, www.Knuttymums.com
Leo is thrilled to have a baby sister, but soon becomes frustrated that she is always on the floor and cannot play with him. He takes it into his own hands to get her up and playing- but not without a few tumbles along the way.
We all need help sometimes, and brothers and sisters need to be there to raise you up and to protect you when you fall.
